About Bikram Yoga

Bikram Yoga is a demanding modern discipline. It is the original hot yoga — a 40-year-old practice which has had results around the world. We pass it on the same way that we ourselves were taught; we do not change what works.

After class you feel as if you were born again. Bikram Yoga has strong detoxifying effects on the human body as well as positive effects on the psyche. Bikram Yoga cleanses the body of harmful substances, reduces stress and restores energy. Through regular practice Bikram Yoga effectively shapes the body and enhances muscle tone throughout. Exercise in a heated environment leads to more efficient burning of calories and fat disappears.

The founder of Bikram Yoga is the world-renowned teacher Bikram Choudhury. He brought his method from India to the United States in 1971 at the invitation of the American Medical Association. Two years later he founded his first school, the "Yoga College of India." Bikram Yoga is a dynamic 90-minute series of 26 Hatha yoga (physical yoga)postures together with two breathing exercises that are practiced in a room heated to 42° C/105° F. It is a scientifically prepared method of compressing, stretching and strengthening which stimulates all of the systems of the human body. Each of these postures systematically prepares the body for the next posture, while the order of the postures remains the same and never changes.

Currently, there are 720 Bikram Yoga schools worldwide. All of our teachers are trained by Bikram himself and go through periodic re-certification
